Titirangi

Tui Lodge

Darryl and Bic are a creative couple who live in Titirangi. Their 1950’s family home was originally built for the Walker family of the NZ jewellery company, Walker & Hall.

They engaged us to complete a full makeover of their house, including an extension and renovation. Working in advertising and the music industry, Darryl and Bic are both very artistic, and they wanted this reflected in their home with some unconventional features and design (including built in baths). This led to a fun, challenging and collaborative building process.

MLB worked closely with Darryl and their architect, Sue, to complete a second storey addition to their house, complete with a new master bedroom and ensuite, a new big deck, two new bedrooms and a sauna.

We also refreshed their existing space, while remaining sympathetic to their house’s original 1950’s features. This meant getting creative and making our own 1950’s-style edging and finishes. Another challenge to overcome was using steel joinery throughout, which can be a tricky material to source and work with.

Working together with our clients and their architect, in sometimes creative and unconventional ways, meant that we could create a better, more unique house for this family to enjoy.
