Jonathan and Lynette are semi-retired and had a rear section of land in Beach Haven, which their family had owned for almost 60 years. Positioned behind Lynette’s original family home, which her Father proudly built himself, Jonathan and Lynette’s section looks out to Te Atatu Peninsula from Waitemata Harbour and has a vibrant pohutukawa tree in the back corner.
Jonathan and Lynette started the building process with a group housing company, but they weren’t satisfied because they couldn’t get the level of individuality and character that they wanted. They really wanted their home to express their personality and have careful and unique detailing. So, they engaged Strachan Group Architects and MLB to carry out the build.
The build was a new, two-storey, four bedroom house, with two bathrooms. MLB completed the full build including a polished concrete floor throughout, cedar cladding and intricate timber detailing throughout.
Although getting their ideas off the ground initially took some time, and a bit of refining along the way, MLB is delighted that Jonathan and Lynette now have a home that expresses their personality. It has lots of warmth, vibrancy, unique design features and careful detailing. It has a cohesive feel throughout and a wraparound deck so they can really enjoy their garden. Their home is a beautiful tribute to their personalities and their family’s heritage.
