Black Box

Jonathan, an architect and Justine, an artist, have been working with MLB for 20 years and are long-term friends of ours. They have two teenage daughters and an energetic black labrador.

This is the second family home we have built for Jonathan and Justine, the previous house built 15 years prior. When it was time to build again, this time on a rare empty section in Mount Eden, they asked us to be involved.

Being on volcanic rock, the site was challenging. But we overcame the issues this presented to us, and we are really proud of the house that we built and worked on closely together. Jonathan and Justine’s second family home is now a warm, two-level architectural house with a garage, three bedroom, artist’s studio, landscaping and pool.

Being an architect and artist, they had a clear picture of what they wanted from their second family home and a keen artistic eye. Justine designed the frosting of glass in their external stairwell to reflect three of the local Maunga (mountains) and it’s a real feature and talking point.

We remain great friends and continue to work together when projects come up.
